The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established on July 01, 1949 by an Act of Parliament, viz., The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for regulating and promoting the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute, functions under the supervision of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. As one of the world's leading accounting bodies, ICAI is represented at international accounting forums. The institute has reciprocal qualification agreements with 8 major accounting bodies globally and supports the institutionalization of the accounting profession in 16 countries.

The ICAI is the largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world, with over 1.25 million Members and Students, having a strong tradition of service to the Indian economy in public interest.

A significant number of ICAI members occupy eminent positions in India and Internationally in various Public and Private organizations.
